We Saw an Opening
New Opening from Kitchen to Dining Room
Recently we had an opportunity to assist our client in updating her family home and making it a bit more “her own”. By that she meant she wanted to stay in the neighborhood she enjoyed, appreciate many of the wonderful amenities of her home and tweak the things that could work better for her role as grandmother of two precious girls.
As in most of our homes, the kitchen is always the anchor. The place where we cram in as many people as we can no matter the occasion. In this home the kitchen was indeed centrally located yet closed off to some of the larger rooms that were just calling out to be part of the action. Thanks to our client for allowing us to share a small part of her welcoming home. Please enjoy a few of the before and after shots.
New Opening from Dining Room to Kitchen
Along with adding the new window from the kitchen, the decor of the dining room received some new wall covering (vs wallpaper), some applied molding wainscot and a new light fixture. New chairs we added to family pieces to give a new, fresh look.
Dining Room Before
In the Kitchen …bye bye banquette…we are ready to see the light.
On the other side of this enclosed seating area is a very large, previously formal living room. Opening to this room allowed for all the light to flood into the kitchen. In addition to gaining a very comfortable, and now accessible from both kitchen and dining room, TV and reading area, we were able to create a secondary table that can be used for holiday dining or as an everyday game table.
Speaking of the kitchen, with a few moderate changes this kitchen has been transformed and now is truely central station.
After – Grandma and Girls Ready
Before Kitchen
The window over the kitchen sink looked into a previous addition of a large family room that leads out to a pool area seldom found in this neighborhood. The new opening to the dining room mimics the one over the sink and was the inspiration to open everything up. New paint and some new furnishings make this area completely puppy approved!

Lastly, to create special rooms for both the girls and Grandma, we simply switched places. Our client had a seaside mural painted that she loved. However, she was using this room for the girls bedroom which hid the mural. The existing office had dated furniture not suited for such a chic lady. We think this is the perfect use of both spaces!

Great redo. I love how you incorporated things she already owned and refreshed them. The whole space is so much more lighter and brighter!
What huge improvements. The owner always had great taste and you have magnified it!
