Lilies For the Fillies
READY TO “PINK” OUT?
Show Ponies
The Kentucky Oaks is a premier horse race for 3-year old fillies (female horses) held each year the day before the Kentucky Derby. It is the fourth highest attended horse race in the United States following the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing; the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. Fashion and fundraising for crucial women’s health issues including breast cancer and ovarian cancer are as much a part of the Kentucky Oaks as the live horse racing.
The signature color for the Kentucky Oaks is Pink! Guests to the track are encouraged to prominently incorporate pink into their attire to increase national awareness and raise funds for the fight against breast and ovarian cancer. You will see pink ties, suits, handkerchiefs, sunglasses, sundresses, stilettos, and of course, pink hats.

The historic racetrack, Churchill Downs, reflects its support by decorating the racetrack in pink bunting and holding a Survivors Parade-a march of breast and ovarian cancer survivors on the racetrack prior to the running of the Kentucky Oaks. The winning filly is awarded a garland of lilies, appropriately named “lilies for the fillies.” The official drink of the Kentucky Oaks is the Oaks Lily.
This is one of my Favorite Friday’s!
Enjoy a few more “Pink Outs”!

Great pics. When my Mister wears pink he calls it salmon because he thinks it sounds more masculine. Have a fabulous weekend, ladies!
