WHY AN IMPRESSION IS MORE MEANINGFUL THAN AN IMAGE.
Since the addition of cameras to nearly every cell phone, our talent of absorbing and processing an impression isn’t as prominent as it may have been. In the quest to decorate a room, images are now quickly produced and sometimes duplicated. What if there were no longer any cameras? What if we had to rely on the “feeling” we got when looking at something inspirational. In other words, what if we created our homes from an impression that lingers with us instead of an image?
Image – A representation of the external form of a person or thing in art.
Impression– An idea, feeling, or opinion about something or someone, especially one formed without conscious thought or on the basis of little evidence.
Designer’s are influenced by so many things and the endless presentations of food and drink tops our lists. (Photo above courtesy of Broma Bakery)
Food leaves an impression on all of us. We can smell, taste and yes see what we consume. It is memorable. The blending of colors and the combinations of items around them can be powerful.
The photo of the muddled drinks above leaves an impression of a blend of two similar colors, one slightly deeper than the other. The colors are then mixed with a cool white to keep the colors true and a few contrasting colors added in a small scale.
Even after the image is gone, the “feeling” remains and an entire decor can evolve. Let’s take a look at some examples. After you look, close your eyes and see if the image of the beverages leaves you with an impression.
We love the impressions these images leave with us.
