Mermaid’s in Paradise

BEST WAYS TO INTRODUCE COLOR BACK INTO YOUR DECOR

Remember how we started off the idea of this blog….we said we’d talk about topics of interest to us.  We’d mix in questions that come up during our projects.  We have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients.  Lately we are getting similar questions about the use of color.  “Is color coming back?”  What colors are “in”?  “Can I use a little color…I’m tired of gray?”  We suspect gray is a tad tired of us too.

Our Response

Color never left, all colors are in, and yes, designers are experts at showing you how to use any color you can dream up in the very best way for your spaces.

Just for fun, remembering that all design is personal, let’s see if you’d be open to use either of these two colors in your decor if a designer recommended them to you.  We will even show you two DIY projects we found on Pinterest so you can get a better look before you decide.

No…well maybe.  Probably not.  You’d have to think about this.

What about using both of the colors above together?  Are we crazy?!

Try adding oversize art pieces with lots of color onto these smokey backgrounds.  In lieu of bright white trim and moldings, try an off white creamy hue.  Mix metals, finishes and textures.  Bring in rich, aged woods with modern glass and brass and sink your toes into lush area rugs.

Rooms with walls all painted in the same hues can be ordinary.  Take advantage of the light and architecture in a room to create walls of interest with accent colors, and by creating contrast on the other walls.  Use unexpected colors as accents in artistic ways.

Many times a color is so popular that it is just that….popular!  It works in so many ways and yet do we want our home to look so much like our neighbors?  Try adding several shades of your favorite color in pillows and art.
