SCANDINAVIAN DESIGN – THE BEST WAY TO UNWIND!
How many times do we hear, “There are just not enough hours in a day!” Who isn’t busy? It’s the way life is and most of us don’t want it any other way. However, we do want our homes to offer the calming, soothing sanctuaries we need to recharge. Let’s take a few clues from some Great Danes …they know how to do this!
It’s Friday Favorites already!
Seems like it was just Monday. After Wednesday’s super “guy” post, by our own Great Dane, the pressure is on for sure! I have so much going on right now. Planning our wedding, purchasing our first home and collaborating on all the wonderful projects we are working on for our amazing clients. Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused! To unwind, and refresh, designers love to look at other’s work. Danish decor is some of the most calming around. We’ve got files of these peaceful homes our neighbors to the North enjoy on a daily basis. Let’s take a peak at the slide show below…it’s easier than reading today!
In the mood for adding a little Scandinavian flair to your decor? We love the simplicity and value of Ikea. Here are a few of my favorites!
Well that was the most peaceful 4 minutes I’ve had all week. I might have to watch that slide show again with an adult beverage at hand. A quick disclaimer, we are not affiliated with Ikea but we do love their products. Sometimes less expensive products get tossed in the design world. Good design should not have a price tag.
This table is one of my all time favorites! This is the expanded version, but it can quickly configure for four on a daily basis. It’s style is transitional enough to work in most decor. Change up the chairs to suit your personality. Me…I’d be adding the blue acrylics Kristen selected above with this baby!
Yes, I still call these medicine cabinets even tho all the pros say not to store meds in a hot, humid area. On a budget, or not, adding narrow storage in a bath is always a good way to update. Ikea has some deeper cabinets that can be wall mounted almost anywhere (even over the commode) and give lots of usable real estate. The over 50 crowd need up close mirrors!
These little pups are $6.99. I use a pair on top of the glass/induction range top to protect the surface. However, everyone who comes into our kitchen thinks this is a top of the line range because of the look these racks give. I don’t share this secret with everyone, but for $15 you can upgrade the look of your glass top range. Move them to counters or even over the sink as a drainboard. You can send me an email thank you later.
The photo above is a “bench” storage piece we have had for years. The top flips up on a hinge and reveals a narrow storage area. Just perfect for folded linens or sleeping pillows. This piece does not seem to be available now. It is from the Hemnes collection at Ikea that has some great pieces like this wardrobe below!
Let’s face it, American’s have an obsession with how we store clothing in our homes. We spend time, energy and money on our own closets to make them work for us and give us a little joy each day. Our guest closets are often crammed full of so much other “stuff” that our guest couldn’t possibly use them. Ikea has our backs! Why not make our guest rooms like a chic, zen like spa?
I’ve gotta run and enjoy that glass of wine and watch the soothing Scandinavian slide show again, but want to leave you with this ever so versatile $60 bookcase. We’d love to show you how to use it over and over again in your home. Comes in all kinds of finishes. I love the soft off white color.
