5 Types Of Lighting For Savvy First Time Home Owners

MAKING A NEW HOUSE OUR HOME CONTINUES

littleblackdomicile - Kristen's House During First Phase of Painting

If you remember from our previous post, Oh My Goodness…We Own A House! , our plan for the house is to work with the integrity of the architecture and mix in our style.  One way to blend the old and the new in a house is with lighting.  The painting is underway and we want to have new fixtures ready to install in all the fresh new rooms!   It’s Friday Favorites and let’s look at some of the types of lighting we have our eyes on.

I’m a gal that loves bling!  I am taking the advice we give clients about lighting.  When your heart loves a fixture go for it.  We will figure out how to use it.  A statement light fixture is just that…a statement.  They are no longer reserved for formal dining areas only.

Another look we are drawn to is the lantern style.  Lanterns will be equally at home in both traditional and modern decor.  The two homes below both appeal to us.  Wood floors and accented doors are so inviting.

Mixing styles and needs of two people who are used to living on their own is always a balance.  Living in a house with one bathroom (to start with) will make a separate vanity area a necessity.  Why not make it luxurious too?!

Right now we don’t have an area in the house to create a cozy reading nook like this.  However, we do have a wonderful rear porch that might just be an outdoor nook next spring.  It would be nice to use this space with intention instead of letting it be a catch all.  We will have to see!

We certainly could use wall fixtures in the bedrooms and love the mixed metal finishes available in transitional styles.

Mr. LBD Junior and I will be working from home at times.  Late evenings will happen.  We plan on sharing a home office and creating a space that is more than a couple of desks.  This room will evolve to meet our need and we want it to be a little funky. Perhaps a floor lamp is in our future!

Lighting in our homes is one of the best ways to show our personalities.  Updating lighting fixtures is often recommended by real estate agents as a way to set a property apart from another.  Our design philosophy is to choose fixtures with care and intention.   We like to think of lighting as art…it’s personal!
