We Spy With Our Designer Eye
Each Sunday we’ll share a design that caught our eye and we took some time to savor. Designs that are a little different from the norm, like this one shared by Arent & Pyke. At first glance we see the explosion of these tomato red counter stools! With a closer look, let’s delve in and see all the design details that make this kitchen so inviting.
Ooooh…Here’s What I Love About This Interior Design!
- traditional white, full overlay cabinets with added true divided glass pane doors
- complimenting dark counter tops, would be great if soapstone yet probably a honed granite with the matte finish
- half vaulted, shiplap covered ceiling is home to recessed can lights that almost disappear
- dark finish, clear bulb pendant lighting complete the ceiling detail
- wood mimic tile flooring offers such easy maintenance
- abstract art pair start the impression that this kitchen is full of color
- one, two, three different pattern and color area rugs work together so well
- oh my…those patio doors in the same tomato finish as the previously mentioned counter height stools with the “pick me up” handle design
- sitting on the counter is an open shelf for cookbooks leaving us knowing this kitchen is always filled with alluring aroma
- board and batten wall design defines the pathway to the alfresco dining area
- more dark finishes with the simple round cabinet hardware and kitchen sink faucet on a smooth flat front, apron sink (no we don’t have to call them farm sinks!)
- is that wood arm chair part of a built-in breakfast nook, or perhaps a Mom’s day desk?
- wonder who is the collector of the multi-color glass bottles gracing the sink window sill?
- plenty of room for messages and mood inspiring tidbits on the magnetic board above the peninsula extension of the counter space
- the plants!
- what’s in that small floral ceramic bowl…lose change, a piece of chalk, a chef’s errant pony tail holder?
- the dark, aged varnish gnarly leg table is just perfect in the sea of white walls and colorful accessories
- looks like a small size, herringbone, white tile wall splash and more moldings as wainscoting in front of stair spindles (behind the vintage plant table)
- the busy Mom, who snuck out for her early Saturday am market trip, has the fruit all ready for the week in a turned wood pedestal bowl
- she’s sitting outside, on her lovely extension of her kitchen, drinking the last of her coffee before her family finds her asking what will they do today!

Red is such a fabulous accent colour in a kitchen like this – love it, Lxx
Reds, any way we use them, work in decor and fashion. Katherine Hepburn always needed just a pop!
I love such little punches of color seen here!! Those stools really catch your eye!!

They do…but it’s only the beginning to such an inviting, and may I day, galley kitchen!
