We love our old house!  But to make it our own, we want to create a home that reflects us.  Sorry, Gram, we don’t want your happy hour bar!

Vintage Homes Can Be So Cool!

Yes, a vintage house can become the coolest home…but it takes some planning and a leap of faith outside the conventional interior design box.  See the wall with the oval mirror?  That’s what we saw when we fell in love with the possibilities of this house.

An Unconventional Happy Hour Bar

And This Is That Wall Now..

Wednesday “Wow”!

Why have an expected cabinet to house glassware?  Why have an ordinary surface to layout appetizers to dessert during a family get together?  Why not have something everyone wants to talk about as soon as they walk in the door?!

Here’s What We Did To Create Our Multi-Use Bar

  • the top is a solid wood slab, cut to size and finished with a poly sheen
  • top is supported by a pair of stainless brackets we ordered from Lowe’s
  • two metal and glass cabinets offer us the storage we need plus look so good contrasting with the natural wood and mixing with the stainless
  • a trio of artistic candles balance out whatever we serve
  • and the big guy on the wall watches over it all!

Good design is not always about spending more money.  In fact, for the same or even less money, a well thought out design plan adds value to our homes in the most intriguing ways.  Ready for some new ideas, just perfect for your LBD?

Conventional, built-in “bars” are not always interesting and rarely reflect our personalities.  Often they become catch-alls for junk.  These areas can be great areas to try a DIY project.  Coming up on Friday, join us to see some of our Favorite ways to enjoy five feet of your home!

    1. This one is all Kristen…but I did “borrow” the idea for a joint project and we made a computer area out of a big cherry slab!

  1. Hi Laurel, the table/cabinet combo is a very clever use of space – and I have truly never seen anything like the horse painting/collage before! Unique, Lxx

    1. Ms. LBD Junior is very creative and is making this vintage craftsman love it’s new life!

    1. This is Kristen’s house and her first…she has truly made it a home!
