We Spy With Our Designer Eye

Each  Sunday we share a design that caught our eye and we took some time to savor.  A design that caught our eye and made us stop and enjoy, like this one shared by carriehayward.  At first glance we feel happy with the burst of color in this decor.  With a closer look, we are drawn in and see how this modern kitchen uses budget savvy options.

Ooooh…Here’s What I Love About This Interior Design!

  • simple slab door cabinets, perhaps a stained honey maple in a previous life, painted a warm navy blue for the base and a crisp white for the uppers
  • soft brass, modern cabinet hardware makes us hardly notice the exposed hinges on the doors
  • white tiled counter tops remain on the perimeter with a newer glossy stone near the “do not break the bank” gas range
  • is that a black dishwasher?  bravo! in a world of stainless
  • when is the last time we saw an old fashioned paper towel holder right out in the open?  looks right at home on this simple black/white/gray mosaic tile splash
  • no need for cabinets to go to the ceiling when we have such a wonderful relationship with bright white soffits and this ever so charming robin’s egg blue ceiling
  • throw open the sashes with this mid century metal and etched glass window over the sink
  • sunday fresh fruit and buttery croissants we can almost smell
  • speaking of the sink…it’s a drop in, not an under mount which seem to almost have been outlawed in the design world
  • rich walnut stain offers a very forgiving floor for a busy kitchen
  • stainless squared handles on a gleaming refrigerator keep the modern vibe going in this design
  • fun trivet collection ready for duty
  • let’s not overlook the elephant in the room…the hot pink one….oooooh baby we love this bold design feature!
  • throw in the turquoise element we are always talking about with the ready to use Fiesta pitcher and simple planter
  • the bold geometric fabric for a roman shades completely makes us forget the original recessed light over the sink
  • don’t miss the timer on the range hood…Alexa has not made the cut in this cook’s life yet
  • a modern day June Cleaver, perhaps with curly red hair in a perfect messy bun, searching in the dining room sideboard for one more flower vase this early spring Sunday

    1. And we love that this kitchen is so successful without new cabinets, counter tops or other costly updates!

  1. One of the best I’ve ever seen, Laurel. The pink rug is so fabulous that I can forgive it covering up the beautiful floor. And the painted ceiling is just gorgeous – it must feel like it’s always a summer’s day, Lxx
