Where Does A Young Interior Designer Get Inspiration?

Motivational Monday!

Recently, my design radar was in full mode during a get away with the hubby, Mr. LBD Junior, to celebrate a close friend’s wedding.  Traveling always offers interior designers such amazing inspiration and the time to take it all in!

Interior Design Inspiration Abounds In Boutique Hotels

We stayed at Hotel Covington, a vintage building in downtown Northern Kentucky. The former Coppin’s Department Store has been transformed into a beautiful, modern, luxury hotel.
Hotel Covington seamlessly mixes vintage touches with modern tailoring to create unforgettable character and charm.  No wonder it’s been voted the #1 hotel in Kentucky!

A Hotel’s Design Must Make A Memorable First Impression

One of our favorite spots to hang out was the chic bar area.  Clear glass globe fixtures line the long bar area and create a special ambiance at night.  The flooring throughout the lobby, lounge and bar is a wide plank, dark, rich hardwood floor running in a diagonal pattern.  Black shelving units are placed on each side of the bar showcasing custom drink glasses etched with the Roebling Suspension Bridge on them.  Numerous wines, local and seasonal beers, and fancy cocktails are just an order away!

The long bar was outlined with a funky inlay hexagon tile floor.  It is hard for me to stay in the moment of the events with all these well planned design elements everywhere!

Food Always Inspires Interior Design

For brunch we ate at Coppins restaurant with a couple of our close friends.
Weathered brick from the old Coppin’s Department Store building remains visible in the restaurant.  Sections of the brick walls are painted in a flat black accessorized with brass plates, adding some glitz to the restaurant at night.  Floor-to-ceiling windows let in amazing natural light during the day.

Design Inspired Bedrooms Create An Atmosphere

Our coppin king room’s 350 square feet room was filled with character, detail and elegance and faced the front side of the hotel overlooking the charming and quaint streets of downtown Covington.
The bed has a large gray velvet tufted headboard with a soft fur blanket draped at the bottom.  A large beautiful chandelier added the perfect amount of glitz to the room.  Grand floor to ceiling windows added incredible amounts of natural light to our room as we eagerly anticipated the wedding festivities.  Custom floor to ceiling drapery dressed the windows and were easy to shut at night to give us a dark room to sleep in.
Our room was the perfect place to come back to after a night of nearly dancing our feet off!  We especially loved the mini-fridge stacked with local goodies…perfect for a late night stack.

Sidenote:

One of Mr. LBD Junior’s favorite things in our room was the bathroom, which included a double sink for both of us to get ready together.  He also raved over the large walk in shower, complete with matte black Kohler fixtures.  See….designers even notice the shower fixtures!

Good Design Impacts Us All

During the weekend, numerous conversations about the decor popped up.  What do I think about it?  What style is it?  To our friends, and other wedding guests, this hotel certainly confirms our firm’s philosophy that good design impacts so much in our lives.  From the charming ambiance to the beautiful décor, we will not forget our weekend at Hotel Covington!
