We’ve Got The “Sunday” Blues

IMG_5013

If each day of the week had a “color”,  I’d have to say Sunday’s would have to be blue.  Not just any blue though.  Not the cobalt, royal, or midnight.  Sunday’s blues are the soft ones…the ones you can “feel”.

It’s a sign of the times.  More of us are working from home ourselves or engaging with others who are learning new ways to be productive.  Calling our workspace an “office” has a much broader scope right now.  Here’s three things that will make our “work from home” experience better.

We Spy With Our Designer Eye 8.23.20

Sunday Strolling

georgianadesign-farm-house-style-decor-littleblackdomicile

Each  Sunday we share a design that caught our eye and we took some time to savor.  A design that caught our eye and made us stop and enjoy, like this one shared by georgianandesign.  In a time of an abundance of transitional design, it is comforting to pause and reconnect with the beauty of classic design.  So timeless!  Join us today as “We Spy With Our Designer Eye”!

Ooooh…Here’s What We Love About This Interior Design!

  • a soft color palette that allows for the room’s decor object to be the focal point
  • notice the absence of a stark white trim between the walls and the ceiling
  • timeless detail on the fireplace mantel makes us want to run our fingers over the embedded groves
  • aged firebox and hearth brick, dusty from years of use
  • a pair of mossy, unevenly growing snake plants, in pedestal urns, remind us it’s ok to be slightly different and fit in
  • is the game of chess just starting or is there someone in the house who is a prankster?
  • comfy, high side wing chairs welcome all fireside activities
  • how many of these warm, worn brass light fixtures have, unfortunately, gone by the wayside in modern decor
  • love the patina framed oil of the child with their pet over the fireplace
  • a ladderback chair makes us think there is a table, at least for a foursome game night, nearby
  • lovely soft sage color on the walls and moldings offset by equally soft white ceiling
  • dark leather-bound books, the classics perhaps, mixed with golden urns in a charcoal single, freestanding bookcase
  • wood floors with just enough sheen to pick up the natural light streaming in
  • need a little more color in a decor…imagine a vibrant vase of summer’s last garden flowers on the mantle
  • what fun to picture a family with a big bowl of popcorn laughing over a game of Uno, and the smart beagle underfoot waiting for the errant kernel to fall to the floor!

Enjoy The Week!

Undoing The “Must-Haves” In A Kitchen

“I Must Have Granite and Stainless Steel Appliances!”

Ok, all you real estate agents, and at home HGTV watchers…how many times do we hear these very words?  TOO OFTEN!   Today we share our own minimal kitchen journey to totally debunk these must-haves in our kitchen.

The Holdover Kitchen

IMG_4423

The old saying in real estate of, location-location-location, finally resonated with both Mr. LBD and moi at the same time.  For years we’ve known that walkable, city neighborhoods are our playgrounds.  We’ve paid big bucks to “live like locals” for a month at a time in cities all across this wonderful world.  Nearly a year ago, we successfully acquired a full-time residence in our favorite city.  Within this home, we also were the proud owners of a 12-year-old “must-have” kitchen.

The photo above shows the small kitchen with updated paint, and those stainless and granite amenities all shined up.  Due to the city’s strict building permit restrictions…this space was what we functioned in every day.  Looked good but was not the best use of space for how we live.  We cooked often before the pandemic and, well, I don’t need to tell anyone that kitchens have become even more important to all of us now!

Expectations of Blog Content and Online Shopping-Take Two

This post is an update to one written last fall.  Still perfectly timely and food for thought for all of us.  Plus…you don’t want to miss the exciting update on our lamp saga!

Life Does Not Have To Be Perfect To Be Wonderful

Unknown

Last week LBD suffered another blog site problem on Sunday that took some extensive work with our IT guys to correct.  I am using this as one big excuse as to why posts have been sparse lately.  But to be honest, I’ve felt the funk of not being inspired to write new blog content for weeks.  Perhaps we need to gear expectations of blog content in the same way we do for online shopping. Update:  The world is in a funk right now and it takes all of us to keep each other motivated and inspired.  We appreciate all the kind thoughts that head our way each day and the understanding that blog posts are not at the tippy top of the priority list each day.
