Grease is the Word…

is the word…is the word.

If you don’t know what movie this song title is from then I know you are in the under 50 group right off the bat. Yes…we meant to spell it wrong in the title. Not that this matters for todays arm chair traveling to Santorini, Greece.  All ages will want to take this trip!

Need a little Nooky

If you’re like me, you love a perfect place to get cozy. After a long day at work, or on a cold day, there is nothing like snuggling up with your cashmere or fur blanket and hot cup of coffee or even glass of wine :).

Nooks are the perfect place to curl up with your favorite book, magazine or iPad for some undisturbed reading time. Spending time in a nook is not wasted time. It is spending some “me time” to de stress, relax, reset and recharge. Nooks take very little space in your home.  An unused corner in your bedroom, living room or even kitchen can be turned into a fabulous reading nook and add charm to your home. Let’s take a look at some nooks calling my name.-Kristen

You don’t need built-ins to create your own cozy nook, all you need is a cozy place to sit!

A nook is also an alcove, defined as recess, typically in the wall of a room or of a garden.  Ah, an outdoor nook!   Let’s think about these possibilities as we head into spring.  It’s so vital in this busy world to make time to decompress. Having a space to look forward to helps me make this part of my day.  This habit is something I want to pass onto my children and grandkids.  A nook, alcove, a spot, a hideaway …whatever you want to call it, I hope you have one carved out somewhere to enjoy!-Laurel

Savor your Saturday

Weather across the country seems to be unseasonably “ahead” this week.  Reports everywhere are of early greenery and warm breezes.  Pedicures are probably on many minds.  If you can wiggle out some time to indulge this weekend….would it not be glorious to sit in these chairs and be pampered?  This goes to show how a much difference good design can make.  This will not be not your standard pedicure!

Sunday Night Meal

french_dip_728.png.jpeg

Since you are already in a pampering mode for the weekend, why not plan a slow cooker meal for Sunday.  You can run to the grocery in those cute little flip flops they give you at the salon. (I do.)  Here’s a favorite in our house.  French Dip Sandwiches.  However, I buy the shaved meet in the meat section (or ask the butcher to shave a london broil for me) to skip the messy part of slicing the meat and add peppercinos about the last hour of the time. Here is the link for your impressive Sunday “I cooked all day.” dinner.  Left overs not too shabby either for a couple of nice take away lunches.

Savor Sunday

IMG_7991.JPG

We use Sunday’s to regroup and recharge in our home.  Like everyone else we know, no matter their lot in life, we’ve had a busy week.  We worked hard, played hard and taken care of equally fun and tedious necessary tasks.  Today we begin to look towards this next week.  What we will need to plan for, who needs to be where, what to wear, eat and what we might be able to do today to get just a small jump on things.  By mid afternoon on Sunday’s it’s nice to have a little unplanned time.  A time to do something unexpected…something you get to choose.  Or maybe a few minutes to do nothing at all.

The Humble Orange

Gorgeous color, refreshing fragrance, and an explosion of taste. For me a white bowl of oranges on the table inexpensively adds to the decor and reminds me to take a few minutes out of my day to treat myself. I like that oranges remain defiant in today’s constant on the go lifestyles. No matter how you prepare….peeling, slicing, or segmenting….an orange takes a little time and is deliciously messy!
